First reached by Europeans in 1821, the town known today as Mudgee was settled in 1822 by George and Henry Cox. The architectural facades and historical buildings that line its broad leafy streets, many dating back to the 1850s, were described by the National Trust as “one of the finest townscapes in a country area.”
Just over three hours drive from Sydney, or four from Newcastle, the region is a peaceful retreat with plenty to offer – fine wines, quality accommodation, spectacular scenery, a four-season climate and warm, hospitable service. Locals love where they live, and they are more than happy to share its natural abundance and beauty with you. The Mudgee region offers a vibrant lifestyle and prosperous economy which makes it the perfect place to live and raise a family. The region also attracts more than 460,000 visitors each year to experience local wine, food, sporting and cultural events.
If you’re looking for relaxation, you’ll find it here. You’ll experience great food, wine and the warmest service around. Add to that the stunning scenery, National Parks, and historic towns and you’ve got what we know as the Mudgee Region – Sensory Perfection.
